The Southernmost resort of Playa Blanca on the island of Lanzarote, has in the last few years established itself as one of the main tourist resorts in the island. This quiet and charming little town has received several awards for its cleanliness and it is the ideal holiday option for a relaxing family break.
The lovely streets, the beaches and its walking avenues, together with the quality of its services, have transformed Playa Blanca into an important reference point as a high quality tourist destination within the Canary Islands. Apart from several high quality hotels, there are also many possibilities for your holiday accommodation, recently built villas and apartments with top of the range facilities and services.
There is a wide spectrum of leisure and entertainment options, a great variety of excursions and a good deal of sports possibilities (mainly related to water sports), apart from shopping centres, great night life and an attractive and varied gastronomy to be tried in the numerous restaurants with local, regional or exotic cuisine.
The tourist resort of Playa Blanca also enjoys a magnificent promenade of over 7 km long. This wonderful sea walk explains the close relationship of the population with the ocean and its surroundings and offers all of us the possibility of making the most of it.
On this outstanding sea promenade, next to the old town, and on parallel streets, we can find all sorts of restaurants, bars and shops. It is also worth visiting the recently built marina area, where again there are all kinds of good quality services besides a new shopping centre.
With reference to the beaches, Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo stand out for their marvelous fine white sand. However, Papagayo Beaches are without doubt the best of them all. They are a group of coves with fine white sand and crystal clear waters, which are a dream for all their visitors. It is possible to get to these breathtaking caves by foot or by bicycle, but depending where your holiday accommodation is in Playa Blanca, the distance can be rather long, so it is recommended to go by car. In this case, as it is a natural reservoir – the Ajaches Natural Park – there is a toll of 3 Euros per car. At Papagayo Beaches we will find parking, services such as a bar and a restaurant, and security patrol.
Just a few minutes from Playa Blanca we will find some of the most representative places in the island; the Timanfaya National Park, La Geria, Las Salinas de Janubio, the delightful small fishing village of El Golfo (the green lagoon), Los Hervideros or the charming town of Yaiza. It is also possible to visit Las Breñas, a little village from which there is an amazing panoramic view of Playa Blanca and in the distance, Fuerteventura Island.
There is the possibility to go by boat from Playa Blanca to Fuerteventura Island. The crossing takes just 25-35 minutes, depending on the ferry. The large Corralejo Beaches, with their white dunes and crystal clear waters, will make the visit worth it.
